Organization

Week Without Driving is growing movement led by a diverse coalition of local organizations, advocates, governmental agencies, and elected leaders across the U.S. and beyond.

History

The campaign began in 2021, when Anna Zivarts at Disability Rights Washington launched the Week Without Driving so that policy makers, elected leaders and transportation professionals could begin to understand the barriers nondrivers experienced in accessing their communities. After two years, pedestrian advocacy organization America Walks joined the effort to support the national growth of Week Without Driving. In 2026, Week Without Driving continues to grow under the leadership of Nondrivers Alliance to elevate the voices of nondrivers and reimagine mobility across the country.

National Steering Committee

Week Without Driving is guided by our national steering committee, which includes representatives from Disability Rights Montana, Alliance for a Just Society, Sierra Club, Oaks and Spokes (Raleigh, NC), Safe Streets Austin, LA Walks, Oahu MPO, The League of American Bicyclists, and Greater Greater Washington. Staffing and coordination of webinars, templates and other resources is being provided by the Nondrivers Alliance with support from America Walks.
